Green limestone on a black granite base. 47 x 32 x 12 cm (19 x 13 x 5 inches).
The Green Man has long captured my attention and whenever I find myself in any of the larger churches or cathedrals I always make an effort to seek him out. He is nearly always high up in the rafters or under the seats of the choir stalls, hidden yet visible. It seems that he will forever be with us, as stone carvers have for centuries been including carvings of him in many larger places of Christian worship.
In my version, the face is surrounded and embedded with the Oak as a symbol of strength and steadfast nature. And the green natural colour of the stone seemed to asking for him to be carved in it.
